stylish bride: melissa

melissa and derek met in high school at longmont high (colorado) about 13 years ago and were good friends throughout high school and college. during their junior year at the university of colorado, they had calculus 2 together and started spending a lot more time. melissa finally mustered up the courage to tell derek that she liked him more than a friend at a 4th of july party and they have been together ever since. they really wanted to get married on the 4th of july, but since it was a sunday this year, they settled on the 3rd instead. the got married the day before their 6th anniversary!

at the time when derek proposed, melissa had recently been involved in both her sisters' weddings and so through them she had created a vision of what she wanted her own wedding day to be. from melissa: "derek and i absolutely love colorado, the mountains, the colors, the natural beauty... we really wanted to incorporate the beauty of our state, while still having a modern, hip affair. i love contemporary style, bold colors, and creative personal touches and wanted all of these elements to be a part of our very colorado wedding."

melissa fell in love with her gown before she was even engaged! melissa: "i felt like the champagne color of the dress, the asymmetry and the long sash made it a bit contemporary, but the cut of the dress with all the pick-ups was more traditional. it was the perfect blend for me." her dress was from oleg cassini style CT203 in champagne and latte. she also had a custom dress label made by a vendor on etsy. her shoes were michael kors vice. she absolutely loves them because they came in her exact wedding colors and they did not have a giant heel so she could wear them all day without her feet hurting. melissa: "my dad is very, very short and he didn't want me to be way taller than him walking down the aisle :) "

her pearl earrings and neclace were from tiffany & co. that derek had given her a few years ago for her birthday. her gorgeous bracelet was from made by a fisher designs (a project wedding bride). her hair flower was champagne colored with ivory pearl clusters in the center and was purchased on etsy from virginia geiger jewels. her veil was a very simple 72" ivory cathedral veil, also purchased on etsy.
