dressing up ikea hemnes cabinet
we bought this red ikea hemnes linen cabinet to store our dining room essentials in denmark: the better china, wine glasses (and some beer glasses flo has been collecting), and napkins. i wanted it to integrate better with the room that we have now, so i dressed it up with a couple of things: change the knobs with the streamline knob from anthropologie (in brass) and line the back panel with the white and gold petal pusher wallpaper from hygge & west designed by oh joy! (i use the same wallpaper to line the bookcase in the living room, but it's not too visible due to, wait for it..., the books!). even though it does not change much from its original version, i love that it does not appear too strong in the more muted dining room/kitchen colors. i still have to figure out where to put those two blue stacking chairs that we bought when our furniture container was still on its way.
on top of the cabinet we have the two cow paintings we bought in ubud, bali, my balinese dance headdress, an angel statue gifted by flo's mom, and my rarely used cookbooks (the most frequently used ones are on top of the fridge in the kitchen). on top of them is the london bus tin can where we store our loose change. the white and blue chinoiserie lamp was a cheap find from amazon.
ps. the plant, abutilon red tiger, was the first plant we bought after we moved in here. it got knocked over in the balcony during a rain storm last week, so we had to bring it inside. i guess it will stay there until the spring when it starts flowering again.
